The Perry Brothers - Ch. 10
Terri and Terry, 16 years old
The brothers have a game night. Their parents are gone for the whole night. "Come on... Get him. Get him! YES!" Both are laughing and shouting every now and then. Terry and Terri really appreciate these small moments. Suddenly Terri's phone rings. It's Emily. "Hi, honey! Yeah? You okay? Alright, alright.Well, I guess so. I'll see you soon!" Terry questions the call. "Emily wants to talk. She's coming already." The twins get a coat and go outside to wait for Emily. It's pretty cold. The darkness has taken over and there are a few lights coming from windows. Emily finally comes on her bike. Her eyes are gleaming and her hair is flowing beautifully. All three go inside.
Emily seems sad. They sit down in the living room. Emily almost goes to Terri's arms, but sits further away. "Em, what's wrong?" Emily takes a few deep breaths. "Terri... I don't know, how to say this. I... I don't think that w-we should, uh, should be together. It doesn't work out." Terri's heart stops for a second. He can't breath. He can't think. He's staring forward, not even blinking. Everything is happening inside his head. All the memories, all the thoughts, all the moments, all the kisses. All the incredible love. It's like everything is getting further away from him. It's like a wall appeared in front of Terri without warning. "But... But, I... We..." Terri tries to hold back the tears that are gathering in his eye. "Why?" "Terri, I... honestly, I really do love you. But I just can't have a serious relationship with you." Terri starts almost shouting, trying to fight the sorrow. "Why? Why? We're happy together! We, we... Isn't love good enough? What did I do wrong? We can fix this-" "No, Terri. It's not because of you... I mean it is... But it's not your fault! It's just... It's Terry. I mean... Oh god, I'm gonna be an awful person now. There's nothing wrong with either of you." Emily takes a moment to think, how to say these things. "If we'd ever get married, I just couldn't think, that I'm married to Terri. I'd feel like I'm married to both of you. And imagine raising kids. It wouldn't work..." "But... NO! You can't leave me! I love you! We can work things out. We're gonna go it through together. We're gonna fix everything. Please! You... You said, you love me. Do you love me enough, to not care about this? Do you? DO YOU?!" Emily stays silent for a second. "I guess not." She hugs Terri for a long time and walks to the door. She looks back and then leaves without a word.
Everything falls apart. Nothing feels the same. Everything's getting further away. Everything you knew has changed. Terri's tears are gathering up in his eye like a flood before he releases them into a waterfall. She's gone. Terry doesn't know what to do. He's never been the comforting type. "Terry, she's gone. She's gone. What am I going to do now? I... I can't!" Terri's tears start dripping onto their shirt. All of his words crumble and shatter as he says them. "I can't live without her. She just... No. Because we're conjoined, she left. It's because... It's because of you. It's your fault! It's because of you! You're the reason we can't be together! It's your fault, Terry! YOUR FAULT!" Terri continues shouting at his brother. His tears are rolling down Terri's cheeks and his words strike into Terry's heart. "I hate you, Terry! I HATE YOU! It's all your fault! Without you, my life would be better in every way! I HATE YOU!" The brothers fall on their knees and Terry starts forming tears too. Terri cries loudly, but tries to talk through the weeping. "Te-Terry... I-I'm sorry, it's not your f-fault. I just... I don't kn-know what to... to do." "It's fine... Do you wanna talk about it?" Terri tries to even his breath and shakes his head slightly. Terry thinks for a moment. "Well... If you'd like it, we could get some of your favourite snacks and watch a movie. You could... You know, get it out of your mind." "I think t-that... that'd be great."
Terry gets the brothers some chocolate, jelly beans, and soda. They take off the shirt wet from Terri's tears and put on a tank top. It's around three times the twins' size, so it's comfortable. Terri picks one of his favourite movies. It's a romantic comedy about a monster, who's grown up in the human world and then tries to fit in with the other monsters. His favourite movies often have humans and monsters becoming friends, but that definitely doesn't mean he's interested in that. Terri still cries, but his breathing starts getting easier and more even. Terry can't stand looking at his brother like this. Or atleast not when someone else has made him cry. Terri sobs through out the whole film, but he does calm down slighlty. Watching movies isn't the best comfort for a broken heart especially when the movie is about love, but it's good to make you forget about your sorrows for awhile. Terry starts thinking. Emily doesn't love Terri enough to stay with him. So maybe that means it's for the better.
